What is a visa renewal?
The Consular Section accepts renewal applications for many visas without requiring a personal interview. To qualify for a visa renewal:
- You must be a resident or citizen of the Dominican Republic.
- You must be renewing a visa in the same classification.
- The visa you are renewing must be a multiple entry full-validity visa.
- The visa you are renewing must either still be valid or expired less than 12 months ago.

The U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo remains closed for routine immigrant and nonimmigrant visa appointments. We will resume routine visa services as soon as possible but are unable to provide a specific date at this time. The MRV fee is valid and may be used for a visa application in the country where it was purchased within one year of the date of payment. If you have an urgent matter and need to travel immediately, please contact us at support-dominicanrepublic@ustraveldocs.com to request an emergency appointment.
Those with immigrant visa appointments should wait for further information about a new appointment date.
Approved visas and passports are available for pick up Mail Boxes Etc every day of the week during the office’s normal business hours (some branched may close on Sunday). Passport pick-up at the VAC is limited to Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. You will receive an email when your passport is ready to pick up at your chosen location. Please bring your valid photo identification (cédula) and your appointment letter from ustraveldocs.com to collect your passport and visa.
