In the previous Ask the Consul articles we discussed how to find visa information at do.usembassy.gov, how to complete a non-immigrant visa application (DS-160) at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/, and how to use www.ustraveldocs.com/do to create a profile, make a payment and schedule your appointment.
By following the prompts online, you’ll be informed whether you need to make an appointment at the Visa Application Center (VAC) at Galería 360 in Santo Domingo, the Embassy or both. The majority of applicants are required to make a visit to the Visa Application Center before attending an interview at the Embassy.
Your appointment at the VAC should be quick and simple. You’ll need to present a passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States, your DS-160 (application) confirmation page and your appointment confirmation page.
Your biometric information will be captured, including your fingerprints and digital photograph. Eyeglasses and head coverings are not permitted in the photograph except for medical and religious reasons.
Your application data will be verified and a sticker will be attached to your passport to serve as a locator. The information on your application form (DS-160) must exactly match your passport. Missing or incorrect information will cause delays in the process. Review your application thoroughly to avoid this situation.
Please remember, for your security, you’ll be subject to a security inspection upon entry. The following items are not allowed in the VAC:
Electronic devices such as mobile phones and tablets, food or drink, large bags, cigarettes or lighters, sharp objects, aerosols and weapons. These same security rules apply at the Embassy.
