The Ambassador of the United States of America, James W. Brewster and his husband, Mr. Bob Satawake hosted a welcome reception in honor of three new officers joining the mission in Dominican Republic: Mr. Patrick Dunn appointed as Deputy Chief of Mission; Ms. Sylvia Johnson, new Consul General and Mr. Philippe Furstenberg as the Regional Security Officer.
Prior to his appointment in Dominican Republic, Mr. Patrick Dunn served as Acting Director in the Office of Europe, Western Hemisphere, and Africa in the State Department’s Bureau of Energy Resources in Washington, D.C. He is a Foreign Service Officer focused on economic diplomacy. Also has served as Deputy Chief of Mission/ Chargé in Praia, Cape Verde; Energy Team Leader (Deputy Economic Counselor) in Baghdad, Iraq; and Economic Counselor in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
While, Ms. Sylvia Johnson began her career in the Foreign Service over 20 years ago in the Dominican Republic, where she worked for the Consular Section. Johnson served in several countries in Asia and Africa and Latin America. Ms. Johnson earned a BA from Duke University, a JD from South Loyola University and completed graduate courses in Urban Planning and Transportation at the University of New Orleans. Ms. Johnson was born in South Carolina.
While, Mr. Philippe Furstenberg joined in March 1999 the Diplomatic Security Service of the United States Department of State. He has been in charge of security in several missions in over 20 countries. He worked for two years as Assistant Regional Security Officer at the United States Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka. From July 2011 to July 2014, Furstenberg served in Washington as Division Chief in the Department for Crime Investigation Overseas.
