U.S. Embassy to host 7th Annual Green Fest at the Botanical Garden

Santo Domingo, D. N. – On Sunday April 23, the Embassy of the United States of America will host the seventh consecutive “Green Fest” to commemorate International Earth Day.

Each year, the Embassy of the United States hosts Green Fest as a way to raise awareness among the public of the importance of preserving the environment and implementing actions that reduce our impact on the planet. The event, which is free and open to all ages, takes place Sunday, April 23, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Jardin Botanico.  This year’s festival has a theme of “Unidos Por Una Ciudad Limpia,” with a focus on recycling and local cleanup efforts.

Chargé de Affaires a.i. of the United States of America Patrick Dunn, will give opening remarks with the Botanical Garden Director Ricardo Garcia, and officials from the Ministry of the Environment.

The public is invited to visit over 90 exhibitors who will display their products and initiatives. Green Fest will host an organic market, displays by non-governmental organizations, artisan crafts made from recyclable materials, a kid’s corner, food trucks, and lectures on recycling and activities for the whole family. Those that attend the Green Fest will enjoy music from three live bands, including Grupo Faena, the Wild Cards, and Karikatura.  There will also be educational presentations about recycling and conservation by speakers throughout the day, including Fundacion Propagas, Fundacion Propular, Fundacion Reservas, CEDAF, the Ayuntamiento de Santo Domingo, and the Nature Conservancy/Coca-Cola.

Green Love will be at the festival collecting recycling – paper, plastic, cardboard, tetrapak, etc. and members of the public can turn their recycling in for Ecocredits to use with vendors at the fair.

Green Fest is planned by a team of volunteers from the U.S. Embassy, with collaboration from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the Jardin Botanico, and Fundacion Propagas.
