Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, William R. Brownfield, will travel to the Dominican Republic on October 15-16 and to Colombia on October 17-19. In the Dominican Republic, Assistant Secretary Brownfield will meet President Danilo Medina and senior law enforcement officials to discuss bilateral and regional cooperation on combating organized crime and illicit drugs, and will visit the Port of Haina to discuss port security. He will underscore our desire to continue the successful and effective relationship between the United States and the Dominican Republic, as well as the support we provide under the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) to enhance law enforcement programs.

In Colombia, he will meet senior government officials to discuss our long-standing bilateral relationship and, in particular, our regional security cooperation on issues such as citizen security, counter-narcotics trafficking, and other transnational crimes. His meetings will include participation in the bilateral Security Cooperation Coordinating Group meeting through which to prepare for the next High Level Strategic Security Dialogue (HLSSD) – a forum for the United States and Colombia to deepen engagement on security issues. The focus of the upcoming HLSSD is to build on the more than 10-year record of strong bilateral cooperation and shape a forward-looking agenda that strengthens the partnership between our countries.
