On the Passing of Ambassador Charles T. Manatt

The Embassy of the United States of America extends its condolences to the family and friends of Ambassador Charles T. Manatt and to all those in the Dominican Republic whose lives he touched. Ambassador Manatt passed away on July 22, at Kindred Hospital, in Richmond, Virginia, following a long illness.

Ambassador Manatt served as Ambassador to the Dominican Republic under President Bill Clinton from 1999 to 2001. During his tenure as Ambassador, he was instrumental in helping the Dominican Navy establish the Auxiliares Navales Dominicanos, a corps of ready-to-respond teams trained to assist those lost at sea. Ambassador Manatt will likewise be remembered for his push to encourage the private sector to contribute to public sector initiatives that benefit Dominican society at large, such as the annual “Ambassador’s Cup” golf fundraiser.
