U.S. Embassy and AMCHAMDR Host Overseas Security Advisory Council Meeting

The United States Embassy and the American Chamber of Commerce hosted the quarterly meeting of the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) on February 6th in Santo Domingo.  Eighty-seven representatives and 44 U.S. businesses operating in the Dominican Republic, dignitaries from partner embassies (UK, Germany, Canada, and United Nations), the World Bank, and officials from the Dominican National Police, attended the event.

Special Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation delivered the keynote speech on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.  A Dominican National Police spokesperson presented on crime trends and statistics in the Dominican Republic.  A private sector expert gave a presentation on the money laundering and terrorism financing law recently passed by the legislature.
