New Curfew Hours, Flight Cancellations and COVID Preparedness

Event:  New Curfew Hours, Flight Cancellations and COVID Preparedness

On March 26, the President of the Dominican Republic extended the curfew hours for the entire territory of the Dominican Republic.  Effective tomorrow, Friday, March 27, all traffic and movement of people is prohibited from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m.  The curfew will remain in place through April 3.

The U.S. Embassy has received reports that many U.S. citizens are experiencing flight cancellations.   Flights are still available through Delta and JetBlue.  If you currently have a flight reservation departing on Friday, March 27 or afterword with a late afternoon or evening departure, you should contact your airline to confirm that the new curfew hours have not impacted your reservation.   

Actions to Take:

        • If you want to return to the United States, do so immediately.  U.S. citizens should contact the airlines directly, either through their websites or by phone, to make or change reservations.

COVID-19 Preparedness:

U.S. citizens who are resident in the Dominican Republic and plan to remain for an indefinite period of time should visit the CDC Coronavirus website for information on COVID-19 and steps you can take to protect yourself and your loved ones.  The website includes specific information on symptoms, high risk groups, social distancing measures, and guidance on steps to take if you are sick.
