- Vehicle must be in traveler’s name and with no pending loans.
- Car registration.
- Car insurance.
- International insurance is needed, the cost is $60.00 approx. (this includes the $10.00 importation fee). If traveling via Ferry, the Ferry booking personnel completes all the required paperwork. While in Puerto Rico the government of PRPD located at the Ferry facilities provides a provisional license plate. With this provisional plate, the vehicle and the passenger will be covered in the event of any accident.
- The vehicle owner must obtain a certification from “Plan Piloto” (National Police) in the stolen vehicles department (basically stating the car has not been reported as robbed). Once you go to Plan Piloto and let them know you need a certification for the Ferry they should be able to send you in the right direction.
- All of the above documents must be originals.
- Valid driver’s license.
- The car and car engine must be clean.
- The windows must be functional.
- The owner must have a ticket for himself/herself and a ticket for the car.
