Hurricane Season in the Atlantic officially runs from June 1 through November 30. For the U.S. Embassy, emergency preparedness is essential for the safety and security of U.S. citizens and Dominicans alike. So, how can we be ready for the season? You can prepare an emergency supply kit, have a family disaster plan, and stay informed. We strongly recommend that all U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in the Dominican Republic enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you important information from the Embassy about safety conditions in the country and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency. For more details on emergency preparedness , visit ready.gov. Also, check the Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias website, coe.gob.do, for updated local information.
