As we reach the peak of hurricane season, the U.S. Embassy would like to share some preparedness tips relating to your safety and documents. We encourage all U.S. citizens travelling to or residing in the Dominican Republic to enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates and makes it easier for the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to contact you in an emergency. Your information will never be shared or used for any other purpose. We also remind you to keep important identity documents (such as passports, cedulas, birth certificates and social security cards) safe in a waterproof zip-top bag and keep a “go bag” or emergency supply kit.
