U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo Hosts Reception in Honor of Altos de Chavon School of Design

Santo Domingo, D.N.– The United States Embassy in Santo Domingo hosted a reception in honor of Altos de Chavon School of Design, to thank them for lending 24 art pieces from their collection, which are on display at the Chief of Mission Residence.

The ceremony was headed by the U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Mr. Robert Copley, who thanked Dominique Bludhorn, president of the Altos de Chavon Cultural Center Foundation, and the other school authorities, for their willingness to work with the Mission. Mr. Copley also said that “the artworks selected for the exhibition represent the dedication, discipline, and passion of ‘Chavoneros’.”

The works on display were authored by Altos de Chavon School of Design alumni and students, and selected by the school’s rector, Stephen Kaplan, and its director of fine arts, Raúl Miyar. The curatorship and museography of the exhibition were carried out by Mr. Abil Peralta.

Among the works selected for this temporary exhibition are pieces by Elizardo de Jesús, Jesús de la Cruz, Rosalba Díaz, Frank Lara, Elsa Cáceres, Miguel Alcántara, Luisito Nazario, Mildor Chevalier and Wilson Rodríguez. These artists had the opportunity to share with the guests throughout the evening.
