Once issued a U.S. visa, you have one more step to complete before you can present yourself at a U.S. port of entry and ask for admission—pick up your passport! There are many options available to you, and U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo strives to meet your unique needs through 15 locations where you can collect your passport at no added cost.
After your visa interview, pay close attention to your email—we will send a notice to your registered email address when your visa, nonimmigrant or immigrant, is ready for pick up. If your registered pick-up location no longer suits, you can change your delivery preference up to 11:59 pm on the day of your interview. You need only visit www.ustraveldocs.com/do to change the location.
When picking up your visa, there are a few things you’ll need to bring with you. If you are picking up your own passport, you will need to show an original, government issued photo I.D., and it is recommended that you bring your visa appointment letter with you as well. If you choose to designate a third party to collect your visa on your behalf, they will need to bring a copy of your government issued photo idea, your visa appointment letter, an original letter from you authorizing them to collect your passport, and their original, government issued photo I.D., along with one copy.
We are now offering premium delivery for the additional cost of $9.75/visa, where Mail Boxes, Etc. (MBE) will deliver your passport directly to your home. You will have to present a valid, government issued, I.D. and sign for the delivery. If it is not possible to accept the delivery yourself, you can designate up to four other individuals to receive the delivery on your behalf. In the event your visa is refused, you may request a refund for delivery services up to 11:59 pm on the day of your interview; MBE will retain a $.50 processing fee in this case. There are a few restricted zones where MBE does not deliver; if your address is located in one of these, you may provide a different address for premium delivery.
Finally, in cases of extreme urgency, you may be allowed to pick up your visa at the U.S. Embassy after a short waiting period. Please inform Embassy personnel if there are circumstances that will require you to travel urgently.
