Avoid delays, come prepared to your immigrant visa interview
June 14, 2021

The immigrant visa unit has resumed limited operations and is currently processing all classes of visas; however, the wait time is longer than in the past.  Applicants can avoid additional delays by being prepared for their interview with all the necessary documents.

Applicants are responsible for monitoring their email for updates and for scheduling purposes; failure to attend an interview can result in a delay before it is rescheduled.  Arriving to the appointment without the required documentation may also result in delays.

All applicants MUST bring their ACTA DE NACIMIENTO ORIGINAL and their current, valid passport; the visa cannot be processed without BOTH of these required ORIGINAL documents.  Applicants with “follow-to-join” children should bring those children’s actas de nacimiento inextensa originales. All other documentation should have already been submitted to NVC, although applicants may need to bring updates of certain documents, including certificados de buena conducta and/or recent tax documents for the Affidavit and Joint Affidavit of Support.  Evidence of the qualifying relationship, including photos, may also be requested.
