How do I qualify to renew my nonimmigrant visa without an interview?
While the Embassy remains closed for routine visa services, the U.S. Department of State has expanded the criteria for interview waiver eligible cases. The visa interview requirement is now waived for applicants who were previously issued a non-immigrant visa in the same classification within 24 months of that visa’s expiration.
What is a visa renewal?
The Consular Section accepts renewal applications for many visas without requiring a personal interview. To qualify for a visa renewal as found on https://www.ustraveldocs.com/do/:
- You must be a resident or citizen of the Dominican Republic.
- You must be renewing a visa in the same classification.
- The visa you are renewing must be a multiple entry full-validity visa.
- The visa you are renewing must either still be valid or expired less than 24 months ago.
You are not eligible for the visa renewal if you have had any visa application denied since the issuance of the visa you are renewing, or if the visa you are renewing was lost or stolen.
Applicants whose previous visas were issued in 2009 or after and who were over age 14 when their previous visa was issued are also eligible for mail-in service via Mailboxes, Etc. All other applicants will need to schedule a VAC appointment to be fingerprinted and photographed.
The Embassy remains closed for all routine cases that require interviews. We will resume routine visa services as soon as possible but are unable to provide a specific date at this time. If you have an urgent matter and need to travel immediately, please follow the instructions found at https://www.ustraveldocs.com/do/do-niv-expeditedappointment.asp to request an emergency appointment.
