The Acting Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo, Arthur Brown, shared ideas and experiences with APEC university students during an event to celebrate African American History Month.
During his remarks, Mr. Brown explained the importance of this celebration, which is acknowledged every year through a Presidential proclamation, a celebration at the White House, and special events throughout the United States. He shared his perspective on the role of African Americans in U.S. history, and his personal experience as a Foreign Service Officer who has represented his country in more than 10 countries and worked for the federal government for more than 25 years. Mr. Brown also emphasized the importance of education, telling students that “education is the key, the foundation, the building block. Do more, understand more, make time for your education, build a foundation.”
